US Gypsum Plaster City is a small unincorporated community located in the Imperial Valley region of California. The community is situated in the southwestern part of Imperial County and is known for the presence of a large gypsum quarry operated by the US Gypsum Corporation, hence the name.
The quarry is one of the largest gypsum mines in the United States, producing high-quality drywall products used in construction. The company also operates a manufacturing plant in the region.
The community is home to a small number of residents, mostly employees of the gypsum mine or plant. The area is mostly rural, with limited amenities or services nearby. The nearest town is El Centro, approximately 50 miles away.
Despite the lack of amenities, the region offers some attractions such as the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, a popular destination for off-road enthusiasts, and the Salton Sea, a unique body of water formed from an accidental spill of the Colorado River in the early 1900s.
